Campaigning for change
Social policy is an integral part of our work with clients - it’s an
essential part of what we do and what we’ve always done
It’s about influencing policy and practice, nationally and locally
- We fight for new, better and fairer laws/policies/practice
- We campaign for changes in legislation and regulations, policy
and practice
- We challenge discrimination, unfairness, inequalities, unhelpful
or unworkable rules and bad practice
It’s evidence-based
- We use clients’ experiences to highlight problems, locally and
nationally
- It’s based on real people and real experiences
- We look at trends and reveal the facts
We make practical suggestions for change
- We show how things aren’t working and the problems that can cause
– for clients and for businesses
- We don’t just criticise - we say how it could be better and use
clients’ suggestions for change
It’s preventive
- It prevents problems – for service providers, for
businesses and for potential clients
- It helps those people who don’t use the bureau as
well as those who do
- It’s about helping not just one client but many
potential clients
- It tackles the root cause of problems

Funding
As charities, Citizens Advice Bureaux rely on grants and donations
to maintain core activities and to implement new projects. Government
and local authority grants fund the core of our work (see our annual
report for details). In addition we have a wide range of projects that also
require funding. A number of corporate and charitable trusts already
support the Citizens Advice service as donors or Friends of CABx.
If you would like to help us raise funds or would like to make a
donation to our service please contact us.
